Ivanovic, Jankovic, Djokovic, Nadal Book Semi-final Spots

Posted by Sally on June 3, 2008

It’s been a very good day for Serbia in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros, with all three of their big names going through with ease.

Second seed Ana Ivanovic (pictured) crushed tenth seed Patty Schnyder 6-3 6-2 to book her place in the semi-finals of Roland Garros. The world number two is the highest ranked woman in the draw after top seed Maria Sharapova exited yesterday. She needs to reach the final to defend last year’s points, otherwise Jelena Jankovic or Svetlana Kuznetsova could overtake her.

She will take on the winner of the match between compatriot Jelena Jankovic , who ended the run of Spanish qualifier Carla Suarez Navarro with a similarly comfortable 6-3 6-2 victory.

Fellow Serb Novak Djokovic was pushed hard by Ernests Gulbis in a 7-5 7-6 7-5 win in their quarter-final clash. He will face defending champion Rafael Nadal in the semis, after the world number two posted an emphatic 6-1 6-1 6-1 win over compatriot Nicolas Almagro.
