Monfils and Ferrer Complete Men’s Quarter-Final Line-Up

Gael Monfils (pictured) is the last Frenchman standing in the men’s singles tournament after a four-set victory of Ivan Ljubicic in the fourth round of Roland Garros to book a place in his first Grand Slam quarter-final. The home hope posted a 7-6 (1) 4-6 6-3 6-2  win over the Croat, and will now meet David Ferrer. Spaniard Ferrer came back from two sets to one down to beat Czech Radek Stepanek 4-6 6-2 1-6 6-3 6-3.

As well as Monfils, Nicolas Almagro and Ernests Gulbis will also be contesting their first Grand Slam quarter-finals over the next couple of days. In the women’s draw, qualifier Carla Suarez-Navarro is into her first major quarter-final, as will be the case for either Kaia Kanepi or Petra Kvitova when their fourth round clash is completed tomorrow.
